Hot hat

So, it's 90-some degrees in Portland today, and I'm keeping warm in my just-finished second hat!

Here I am modeling it in my air-conditioned office.

This hat is knit in Fauve, and "designed" as I went along with some eyelet rows and half of a diagonal mock-cable stitch on the band. (I started and restarted the band about 10 times before finally finding a stich I liked. The band turned out a little rolly, but it works.) Finally, I finished this puppy with a vintage button from the 15-cent bin at the Button Emporium. The best button shop in Portland — or maybe the world — is 4 blocks from my office — how cool is that?!

Little knit

Just got this photo of the baby hat (Stitch 'n' Bitch umbilical cord hat) I knit for a friend's baby-to-be. Thanks to Sharon for the photo, and to Carrie for modeling the hat (on her hand).

I also knit the petal bib from Leigh Radford's One Skein, but forgot to take a picture. I'm hoping to see an adorable baby modeling it soon!

Thanks to That Jolie Girl, I just took a fabulous hat design class from the talented and lovely Laura Irwin. Laura is a great teacher and really fun to hang with — we felt lucky to have her all to ourselves!



Here's a shot of my recently finished hat. As is my wont, I chose the main yarn first, for its texture and color, then we figured out together what shape to go for (the technical term is "floppy"). The trim was knit up and added last — another single skein from my little stash.

This was a great experience. I feel more confident in my ability to design/make stuff up, and I've already started my next hat!
